Fellow Democrats -

I thought that you should know about the benefit for the family of Lateef Haskins who lost his life while working to support his family.

In times like these, we should remember how hard people have to work and how much we owe to the men and women of Organized Labor for the contributions they have made and continue to make to our society.

I also call your attention to the support that Iron Workers Local 60 has given to the Democratic Party and I ask you to stand in solidarity with Lateef Haskins by giving assistance and comfort to his young family.

The Birth of a Movement

Only when we are in the midst of trials and tribulations will we be able to determine and /or validate our strength as a community. The community about which I speak is our Democratic community; the defenders of worker’s rights, of equal opportunity and protection, and the vanguard for our democracy. I have though, come to a realization as of late; one that I hope you will support. My realization is that our current circumstances require a transformation of sorts; a rebirth.  ”This moment” which we are currently experiencing demands that we evolve from a mere democratic party into the “Democratic Movement”.

We have witnessed during the past Presidential Election the lengths to which the enemies of fairness and equality will go to satisfy their aims. The working Man and Woman and those who are underserved continue to suffer as a result of decisions made to secure the “more wealthy few”; and “The Few” will continue their tactics of exaggeration and rule bending in order to shape government to their favor. The times of speaking and treading softly have passed.

It is time that we re-energize, re-strategize and re-organize our Movement! We can no longer see mediocrity as an acceptable outcome. We must understand that “EVERY WAKING MOMENT” allows opportunity for progress, and we must endeavor to seize them all! We are simply not doing enough.

Members of the Movement, we are not robots! We are creative, innovative, intelligent, and passionate; but we must also become adaptable. The times have changed and we must be willing to change as well. We must be willing to meet today’s challenges with vigor and determination if we are to assure opportunities for prosperity for all. We need YOU! We need your ideas; your strength and your courage.
